Matthew's gospel records that Mary, Joseph, and little Jesus fled to Egypt to escape Herod's massacre of the innocents. What happened next? According to the noncanonical 'Infancy Gospels,' the child Jesus performed many miracles in Egypt before returning to Palestine. Researching his book Jesus in Egypt, author Paul Perry traced the route of the Holy Family, talking to Coptic Christians and others about the legends.
