The Weeping Women of Jerusalem
Our last lesson comes from the weeping women of Jerusalem who meet Jesus on his road to Calvary. What He says to them is rather startling, “Do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and your children.” (Luke 23:28) Jesus is without sin, yet he suffers an excruciatingly painful death to save us from ours. Jesus is telling these women, and us in turn, to weep for our own sins. We must first evaluate our own lives and turn completely away from sin before we help others to do the same.
