The Ivy League
In 1701 Yale University was founded by ten ministers in order to further the spreading of the Gospel. Princeton was founded by the Presbyterian church and students were required to attend morning and evening worship and to “behave with gravity and reverence during the whole service.” Baptists founded Brown University to further the religious revival known as the "Great Awakening" in America. The Dutch Reform Church founded Rutgers University. Dartmouth was established for “for civilizing and Christianizing the children.” Of the first 108 colleges and universities founded in America, 106 were Christian schools. Of the first 126 colleges, 123 were Christian.
