The Bible says, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” (Galatians 5:1). Paul wrote this warning to the church. The phrased “burdened again” indicates that he knew it was possible for believers to become bound. We live in bondage to sin and have become slaves to our own bad habits and emotions. Unfortunately, many Christians don’t know that they are captive, until God begins to set them free. It’s important that we don’t go back to slavery. Christ gave up everything so we could become free. Now, nothing can hold us back without our permission. God did not set us free to live the rest of our lives in self-inflicted bondage. In order to find freedom, we must be alert so that we don’t return to captivity.
