A Sacramental Marriage
Matrimony is the sacrament by which a baptized man and a baptized woman bind themselves for life in a lawful marriage. The Catholic Church teaches in “The Catechism of the Catholic Church,” that Jesus Christ instituted this sacrament although from the beginning of creation God had already established this intimate community of life and love (#1603).
There are many beautiful aspects of the vocation of marriage. When a man and a woman marry, they “are no longer two, but one flesh.” God calls the spouses to grow in their unity through mutual self giving, mutual love and respect.
