Teachers get a lot of criticism. Some of it deserved, because none of us are perfect, but much is undeserved. You try teaching a group of 20 little children raised by televisions. You try teaching Shakespeare or the Industrial Revolution, quadratic equations or the periodic table to teenagers whose heads are deep in whatever social networking site is popular that day, living in culture that values none of what you are trying to teach them, raised by parents who don’t care either, as long as the final product – the GPA and the diploma – will get the kids to the next stage.

You try.
And we didn’t even mention the administrators and the school systems and the newest mandate from on high that somehow must be worked into an already overloaded day.
You try.
So, as the traditional school year winds down, and thoughts are on moving on, here’s a note of gratitude. Thanks to all the teachers – all of them, and all you do, for much of you at a sacrifice. Thanks especially (from our family) for Teresa, Molly, Otto, Mr. and Mrs. D, Mrs. G, Mrs. McC….for all you do and give…

Thank you.
