The Vatican released a statement on the Holocaust-denying conference in Iran. Translated by Teresa Benedetta

With regard to a current conference on the Holocaust in Tehran, the Holy See reiterates its position expressed in the document of the Commission for Religious Relations with Judaism, "We remember: Reflections on the Shoah".

The last century was witness to an attempt to exterminate the Jewish people, with the consequent killing of millions of Jews, of all ages and social categories, for the sole reason that they were Jews. The Shoah was an tragedy before which no one can remain indifferent.

The Church shares with profound respect and great compassion the experience undergone by the Jewish people during the Second World War. The memory of those terrible facts should stay alive as a warning to our conscience to eliminate conflicts, to respect the legitimate rights of all peoples, and to exhort us to peace, truth and justice.
