I finally tracked down this painting – St. Matthew and the Angel  – which hangs in the Vatican Museums, and which, after we returned from Rome, I could never identify. It’s by Guido Reni, known, one article I read said, for his "theatrical" style. Well, yes – but I’m still entranced, even though the "theatrical" monikker tells me that perhaps I should sniff in disdain and move on to something less expressive, eh?
