Perhaps you’ve been following the story of Father Fay, the Connecticut priest accused of misappropriating funds, acts suspected and investigated by the parish associate pastor and secretary, claiming the diocese would do nothing.

Blogged here

and then, last week, here.

Well, a slightly new twist from the NYtimes today, which says that friends of Fay’s came to remove personal belongings after he resigned, including his laptop. As they did this, they told the parish personnel they had diocesean permission; the diocese denies it is so.

There is, as you probably remember, a male companion in all of this, with whom the priest owned property. You might have missed this:

Earlier this year, the two men posed together in what Philadelphia Style magazine billed as its “sexiest issue ever.” The priest was identified simply as Michael Fay, without his title, and his companion was identified by the name he uses professionally, Cliff Martell. Asked to name their “most romantic Philadelphia dining experience,” the two men chose La Boheme. “It’s intimate with delicious food,” they were quoted as saying. The same issue also contained a $1,600 ad for Mr. Martell’s business that was paid for by the Darien church, The Stamford Advocate has reported.

“The diocese was not aware of the Philadelphia photograph,” Dr. McAleer of the diocese said.

Well, the diocese should have been aware of the parish finances. Let’s just start there, shall we?
