The Sun-Times reports:

Cardinal Francis George was in intensive care this morning after returning to the operating room late Thursday night for additional surgery after experiencing unstable blood pressure and a drop in his blood count despite having received blood transfusions.

The cardinal went in to surgery just before midnight and underwent a two-hour procedure to repair a blood vessel, according to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago.

The decision to operate was made after discussions with the cardinal, according to a statement on the archdiocese’s Web site.
