So….my daughter said that what she wanted for her birthday was the first season of LOST on DVD. So tomorrow’s her birthday, but since she’s got a very full day tomorrow, we celebrated her birthday tonight. So, we’ve been sitting her for four hours at this point, watching. She’d seen more episodes than I, especially at the beginning of the season.

I think it got a little…lost at the end of the season, with too much X-Filesian mystery for its own sake – they better give some satisfaction in season 2, at some point.  But the individual stories of redemption – for that is what they are – are very well told. The themes of irony and mystery – the things that make life intriguing, baffling and satisfying – are rather artfully done. During season 1, it was probably the most morally evocative show on television – and it was a monster hit. Sneaky. Let’s hope the second season doesn’t mess it up…
