Christmas at Maxwell’s is an independent film, the making of which is described in this Toledo Blade piece from today

Mr. Laufer, 59, said Christmas at Maxwell’s was inspired by his Catholic faith and his mother’s own struggle with cancer. Diagnosed at age 48 and given six weeks to live, she instead went into remission and lived another 18 years.

"The movie really is the story of the forgiving Father, something I feel everyone in this life needs to understand," said Mr. Laufer, who portrays a priest in the film. "The theme we want the movie to be identified with is the forgiveness of God."

Oddly enough, I recently did a Catholic New Service point/counterpoint thing on celebrity, celebrity culture, etc. I was agin’ it, and Mr. Laufer wrote on the other side, pointing out the plusses. It was supposed to be distributed to 20 or so diocesan papers. If anyone saw it…raise your hand, please.
