A good column from the Denver Post

After pressure from pro-choice activists, who
vehemently disagree with the assertion that life
begins at conception, Stephanie Cutter, a Kerry
spokeswoman, reiterated her candidate’s convictions.
Kerry, she says, has “always said he doesn’t believe
in abortion, but these are his convictions that he
can’t enforce on others. He’s pro-choice and believes
that abortion should be safe, legal and rare.”

Cutter might not be aware of this, but every time
Kerry votes on a bill that passes into law, he is
imposing his convictions on a large number of
Americans. What difference does it make if the
convictions driving those votes are derived from
ideology or theology?

And by voting against parental notification for
teenage abortions, the Laci Peterson law and the
partial-birth abortion ban, Kerry has protected
abortion and thwarted efforts to reduce its frequency.
