In a yet unpublished interview with Christianity Today, Manning said that the majority of his readers and retreat attendees are evangelicals. When asked why evangelicals are especially drawn to him, he said: “I’ve tried to figure that out. There’s an evangelical pastor in California who has invited me back to his church three times. I said, ‘Why do you keep inviting me?’ He said, ‘Because your only agenda is Jesus.'”
