Take A Look At The Real You: Nobody’s Perfect

We’ve seen the group on Celebrity Rehab come together in touching ways, and yet tear each other apart with surprising ferocity. They seem to push each other away at the same time as they ask each other for support.

One of the themes Dr. Drew has been emphasizing is the fact that you can be angry with your friends. They can do things that upset you, but that doesn’t mean they have abandoned or betrayed you. For a group with so much childhood trauma, with so many issues of abandonment and betrayal, this is a tough lesson to learn.

And there’s another factor at work here, as well. Addicts and alcoholics sometimes engage in all-or-nothing thinking. In other words, if just one thing doesn’t go well or go their way, they give up on that thing. So if a friend makes just one mistake, the addict can become so judgmental and critical that they cut that friend out of their life.

This is an example of faulty ways of thinking. The Law of Sobriety teaches you to see events in your life more mindfully, with clarity and awareness and compassion. When you do, you can forgive the mistakes of others—and your own as well.
