Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy!
I look to you for protection.
I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings
until the danger passes by.
I cry out to God Most High,
to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.
He will send help from heaven to rescue me,
disgracing those who hound me.
My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness. (Psalm 57:1-3 NLT)

David penned this Psalm in the light of a torch in a dark, damp cave while hiding from King Saul who had made it his highest priority to do away with his young, talented upstart. In that dark place, cold, hard, and uncomfortable, though outnumbered, over-powered, and unjustly hounded, he imagined something quite different. More than just imagined, it was Real. David imagined his God like an eagle caring for it’s young, covering, warming, comforting, and protecting him completely with His wings. His faith turned a dismal place into a place of hope for his future.

Are you in a dark place today? Prayers yet unanswered, yet your faith is growing? Feel and believe (imagination is a gift when used in faith) the warmth and love of God covering you like a luxury down comforter from head to toe. He is protecting you today, encouraging you, upholding you, fortifying you, and giving you His promises to sustain you while you wait for deliverance. Make David’s words your prayer today.

Father,

Cover me today with your feathers. I find protection there from the storm and from the cares of this dark world. May I stay in this place of comfort and may I offer it to others who have not yet found their hope in You.

I Love you.

Amen.

He will cover you with his feathers.
He will shelter you with his wings.
His faithful promises are your armor and protection. (Psalm 91:4)
