Prayer, Plain and Simple

Just moments ago BBC reported that Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has announced Iraq’s intelligence team killed Iraqi Al Qaeda leader Abu Ayyub al-Masri. If true this is a significant development in the battle against terrorism and general chaos in Iraq. Let’s redouble our prayers for troubled nation of Iraq.

“Father, we pray today for Iraq. This nation has suffered under the grip of confusion, repression, terror and corruption. Lord, we pray that your destiny for Iraq, the ancient Babylon be finally realized. As the traditional center of Islam we pray that Iraq would finally find a true and genuine blessing from you. As Christians we pray for their blessing, the blessing of a covenant that is open to all, the sons and daughters of Isaac and the sons and daughters of Ishmael. All of us who come to into God’s family as adopted children do so by God’s grace. May the people of Iraq embrace the free gift of their position as your children of God, not your slaves. Show them your abounding grace. We pray for the defeat of those who use hatred and bitterness expressed through violence. We pray for a wave of hope and faith and peace in t his nation. May those who have known your love find a new voice and may their prayers of faith call down a cloak of peace to settle over Iraq, today. In Jesus we pray this…”
