I’m finding one can learn a lot from a little Lola pig:

  • Follow your gut when dealing with new acquaintances. A few days ago my mom and dad came down to the pen to meet their grand-pig. I put Lola’s harness on her and opened the pen door. Dad was standing next to the door and Lola refused to walk past him. Dad later admitted he was thinking about bacon and ham…..
  • Just because someone thinks an activity matches your personality, doesn’t mean they are right or you need to partake in said activity. I was sure Lola would love our nasty, muddy, wet puddle of a pond. I was wrong. She let me know that wallowing in *that* mud was not her thing!
  • Stop to eat the acorns. Lola doesn’t rush through her walks. She savors them….and every acorn, pecan, and grass root along the way.
  • When something feels good enjoy the moment and let everyone know that you’re enjoying the moment so they can enjoy it with you. Spread the joy!  Tonight my husband was watering the trees while Lola and I were lounging about (well, I was lounging…she was rooting). Joe sprayed the water hose over on the pig. She raised her head high, smiled big, grunted happily, laid down and rolled around as happy as….well….as happy as a pig in water, I guess.
  • Make your home a place you love. When Lola was finished with tonight’s walk she headed back to her pen (her pen made for a Queen Pig!) and voluntarily trotted on in and made herself comfortable.  It made me want to go clean my…uh…pig pen?

If only everyone could enjoy daily lessons from Lola….oh, wait…you can! Keep reading my posts! 🙂
