Now before you judge me, let me explain. Or try to explain…

When I started working at Crosswalk.com, a friend of mine was working at EMI Christian music group and in charge of securing “reviews” for the cover of Carman’s awful boxing movie. Because the movie was bad, she was having trouble securing positive quotes. So she picked up the phone and called me.

“No!” I said. “I don’t like Carman.”

“Oh, please Matthew? Please?!”

She begged and begged and I felt bad, so I decided to tell her that I’d think about it. I didn’t want to write a quote for that movie, but I was also young and stupid and didn’t like disappointing people and sort of liked the idea of my name being on the cover of a VHS/DVD… lame, right?

So that night I wrote the very ambiguous “Carman never ceases to entertain” quote and sent it to her. She LOVED it (because she secretly thought Carman and the movie sucked, too).

I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my career, but most of them don’t involve a shirtless Carman.

The first time my mother saw that movie in Blockbuster with my name on the cover, she was impressed. It didn’t make her want to watch the movie. But she was impressed.
