Amy answers your questions…

What is something you LOVE to do with your family? As in, it’s just not the same without everyone doing it together?

Celebrate holidays.  Travel.  Favorite place – Destin, Florida and Snowmass, Colorado or some new place that none of us have ever explored.  Because there are seven of us ranging in age, it is not that often that we all get to travel together, but I love it when we do.

Do you have the habit of singing around the house?

Not unless I’m writing a song.  There is always music in our house – musicians coming by to record or songwriters coming over to write, but I don’t walk around singing to myself.

How much fun was it to record ‘Overnight’ with your daughter Sarah? Was this something that just came to you one day, or had you been planning something like this for a while?

It was beyond thrilling.  I had enough nervous energy during that session to light up New York City.  In fact, I had to excuse myself while she was singing and leave the room.  I didn’t want to be the complete irritant jumping around like a chicken with my head cut off.  I’ve had the idea of singing with her for about a year.  It just took finding the right song.

What artist or artists are you listening to right now? Is there a new favorite?

I keep my ipod on shuffle (listening thru speakers not ear buds).  Today I enjoyed Bruce Cockburn, Charles Brown, Sara Bareilles, Death Cab For Cutie, Ben Folds, and Vince.

You’ve had the opportunity of working with some amazing musical talent over the years–from recording duets with Peter Cetera and Kenny Loggins to singing on stage with Sheryl Crow and Melissa Etheridge to name a few… if you had the opportunity to collaborate with any artist, who would that be and why?

One of my all time favorite moments on stage was sitting on a small stage next to Stevie Wonder.  We were taping a tv show in honor of Christopher Reeves.  He crashed and burned during a harmonica solo during “That’s What Friends Are For” and asked for a retake… then knocked it absolutely out of the park.  That taught me a lot – namely, not to be afraid to fail.  I don’t have a list of artists I’d like to collaborate with but I’m always excited when an interesting idea surprises me.

What is your all-time favorite hymn and why?

“It Is Well With My Soul”, followed by a close second “How Great Thou Art.”  I’ve known all the words to all the verses since I was a small child.

Amy’s new album “Somewhere Down the Road” is in stores now.
