Do you know these players?

Who can name the players in the famous game between UCLA and the University of Houston? I’ll give you two: Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) and Elvin Hayes (Big E). Do you know who won?

Pulling at some rusty memories. UCLA lost, but then came back and won when the met again in the NCAA’s. Can’t name the players. Curious why this popped up though.

I do remmeber that game in the Astrodome, even listening to it. And oddly enough, I think I was pulling for Houston in that game, but UCLA later. Usually I did pull for UCLA back then.
I just read that Alcindor had a scratched cornea which bothered him throughout the game, and he was certainly off in his shooting: 4/18. Elvin Hayes was lights out in his shooting.
I wonder if those closest to the Alcindor and Hayes are Don Chaney (Houston) and Mike Warren (UCLA).

Mike Warren is 44- in the background. I suppose he is closest to Alcindor in the photo, in a way. 42 is Lucius Allen. I had to look up 45- Bill Sweek.
I also looked up 30 for Houston- Leary Lentz. I agree with Mr. Gossard that it is likely Don Chaney obscured by Hayes’ legs.

yeah it was a close game at the Astrodome but wasn’t it a blowout in the NCAA Tourney?

Alcindor had a scratched cornea, and had the worst game of his college career, but UCLA still only lost by 2 or 3 points playing in the Astrodome. Later, in the NCAA’s with Alcindor healthy, the blew out Houston but something like 40 points. That UCLA team was loaded: Alcindor, Shackelford–deadly stroke, Allen and Warren.
