Wrigley … forever?

posted by xscot mcknight

There’s lots of storm brewing in ChicagoLand about the Cubs announcing they could be remodeling Wrigley Field. Here’s a good site fighting off the move.

As a life-long Cubbies fan who would like to see a world series win sometime in my life, I can’t help but think a new/remodeled stadium might help the cause. To me the name issue isn’t a big deal. No matter what they name it, it will never stick with the fans. “Wrigley Forever!”

I still remember the hoopla about putting in lights back in the ’80s. This change borders on apocalyptic. :)

I love the Cubs, I love the atmosphere inside Wrigley Field, but can’t stand the traffic and people congestion. I say turn the whole place into a parking complex (they can even keep the Wrigley name, like “Wrigley Park”) and build a new stadium out in Schaumburg or Hoffman Estates. One with ergonomically designed urinals.

Given the choice, would Cub fans rather A. Win the World Series or B. Stay in Wrigley Field? You can’t have both. I think for some that would be a tough choice. Since I’m not a fan of the Cubs, I choose B, unless of course they are playing the Bronx Bombers in the series in which case I choose A.

Our Common Prayerbook 30 - 3
Psalm 30 thanks God (vv. 1-3, 11-12) and exhorts others to thank God (vv. 4-5). Both emerge from the concrete reality of David's own experience. Here is what that experience looks like:Step one: David was set on high and was flourishing at the hand of God's bounty (v. 7a).Step two: David became too

Theology After Darwin 1 (RJS)
One of the more important and more difficult pieces of the puzzle as we feel our way forward at the interface of science and faith is the theological implications of discoveries in modern science. Almost Christian 4
Who does well when it comes to passing on the faith to the youth? Studies show two groups do really well: conservative Protestants and Mormons; two groups that don't do well are mainline Protestants and Roman Catholics. Kenda Dean's new book is called Almost Christian: What the Faith of Ou

Let's Get Neanderthal!
The Cave Man Diet, or Paleo Diet, is getting attention. (Nothing is said about Culver's at all.) The big omission, I have to admit, is that those folks were hunters -- using spears or smacking some rabbit upside the conk or grabbing a fish or two with their hands ... but that's what makes this diet
