Obama Nominates Elena Kagan

posted by Robert Gelinas

Today, President Obama nominated Elena Kagan for the Supreme Court.  In his introduction of her, he lauded her professional accomplishments, her love for the New York Mets and that she seeks to understand before she disagrees.

I had the privilege this weekend of introducing Elisa Morgan before she spoke to our congregation this Mother’s Day weekend.  I pointed out that she has shared God’s love to arena’s full of thousands, written fifteen books, and served as the president of MOPS International for twenty years.  But professional accomplishments fall short so I included what mattered most, “She is a wife, mother, grandmother and lover of God.”
What would you like to be said of you?  If someone were to stand up and introduce you to the world what would you like them to say about you?

A few weeks ago I was talking with my friend about our mutual aquintance, a missionary named David. My friend said that after spending time with David he knows he has spent time with someone who has been in the presence of God.
I have thought about this a great deal since then–about the disciples in Acts, where it says “when they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus,” about what someone who has been with Jesus looks like, acts like, thinks like, even feels like. And how the results are seen, but most of the doing, most of the spending time with Jesus, in worship, and service, and prayer, and obedience and everything…that’s mostly unseen by those around us. And about how that is a process, something that doesn’t happen overnight.
So I’ve been praying that that is who I will be becoming, am becoming. Someone who has spent time with Jesus.

I would want someone to introduce me as the following: Jill is a woman who finally understood she needed to get out of God’s way, allow Him to lead, and fully surrender to His will. She became radically obedient, and in doing so she experienced a joy she has never known. This tranformation in her life created a desire to be a Holy Roar for God every single day. She continues to press in to God, desiring the Holy Spirit to rock her world even more than He already has.

I would love to be introduced as a motivator, teacher, and modern day Barnabus. A man who after many years FINALLY let go and let God and was able to minister to men and young men to bring about a better world and a larger population in the Kingdom.

I would want people to say that I was a good role-model for others to follow, e.g. education, working on a consistent basis and persistent in doing all I could in raising children and having a faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and teaching this to my family and others. I would want my life to count for others as a role-model.

A Ghost? Or Our God?   By Patricia Raybon It’s dark, cold and early. But I’m excited. On this morning, the most important thing I have to do is hear from God. And not just a little bit. I want to hear without limits. Isn’t that what we’re all saying today? That we want to be blessed by
