Would you agree then that each performance is unique to current expressions of each contributing musician? If so, could it also be said that the jazz experience extends to the contributions of the listening audience? It is my thought that jazz can be an expression of a collection of experiences and talents, much different from a perfected and polished studio recording.

Absolutely. That is why Sonny Rollins didn’t like to record his music and ultimately said that an album was just a way to get people in the door to actually “hear” the music.
