Verse of the Day: Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

posted by gp_intern

You do well if you really fulfill the royal law according to the scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you show partiality, you commit sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.

- James 2:8-9

From this: Rev. Jim Wallis, founder of Sojourners Call to Renewal, said there are some laws “that are just bad laws, immoral laws,” and he called upon Christians to lobby for “compassionate” comprehensive immigration reform that treats illegal immigrants with grace. I have some questions about that “compassion”. Is depriving Mexico of the workers they need “compassionate”? Is emptying out Mexican villages “compassionate”? At least one state gets more in money sent back from people in the U.S. than they get from local income; is that “compassionate”? What about propping up the corrupt Mexican government? Care to tell us why that’s “compassionate”? What about all the billions of people with even lower income than Mexicans, but who don’t have a land bridge to the U.S.? Where’s the “compassion” for them? What about the massive law-breaking and massive political corruption that directly attacks the U.S.’s founding principles? Where’s the “compassion” for our fundamental principles? I suggest Wallis spends a bit more time thinking this whole thing through, since it’s obvious to me he has no idea what he’s talking about.

Why I Work for Immigration Reform (by Patty Kupfer)
When I tell people that I work on immigration reform, they usually laugh or say, "way to pick an easy topic." Everyday it feels like there is more fear, more hate. Raids are picking up in Nevada, California, and New York. A number of senators who supported comprehensive reform only a few months ago

Verse of the Day: 'peace to the far and the near'
I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will lead them and repay them with comfort, creating for their mourners the fruit of the lips. Peace, peace, to the far and the near, says the Lord; and I will heal them. But the wicked are like the tossing sea that cannot keep still; its waters toss u
