After unveiling a sparkly new stump speech in New Hampshire Sunday, Hillary Clinton delivered it in Iowa again today, but with a few notable omissions: the parts where she says she wouldn’t budge on supporting a woman’s right to an abortion and where she applauds the Granite State’s governor for signing a law legalizing gay civil unions there. The New York Times’ caucus blog notes that she was speaking sans-notes in her Sioux City, Iowa appearance, but God-o-Meter doubts this was a case of temporary amnesia. Clinton’s religious outreach team is particularly hopeful about Iowa because of its unusually large Methodist population—Clinton, by many accounts, takes her own Methodism seriously—and likely wants to avoid needlessly rattling culturally conservative Hawkeye Democrats by reminding them of her liberal social stands.
