Of course, a public celebrity seeks publicity. It is their job, and even sometimes their obsession to get a lot of attention in the press and in the media. It seems that this is the case with Charlie Sheen, the star of the TV sitcom, “Two and a Half Men.” Is he addicted to publicity? Is his addiction problem more than just drugs and sex? He sure is getting a lot of attention these days.

We are seeing a lot of Charlie Sheen on morning talk shows, and even in Primetime. He’s busy denying he has any problems at all. The trashing of a New York City hotel room with the “hired escort,” being locked in the bathroom, his reported parties with briefcases full of cocaine, and his “family” consisting of two prostitutes staying at his Beverly Hills mansion — those he doesn’t see as problems.

Even though his “friends” are all seeking the publicity limelight too, reporting to the media Sheen’s alcoholic rages and purported drug-crazed rants – there’s no problem, Sheen claims. He’s just high on “Charlie Sheen!”

I wonder why I am even giving him attention here, in my column? I sure am tired of hearing about him in every newscast, and in newspapers. I really wouldn’t care if it wasn’t so sad.

Such intense levels of denial are tragic. It makes me think he’s really due for a giant fall, or even death. He’s not taking any responsibility for the other people’s lives he’s making a mess of. Think of his two little kids! Think of the hundreds of people out of jobs when CBS cancelled his series this season! Think of his ex-wife. Think of all the people who worry about him. Think of all the people who see his behavior on TV, and think he is cool!

He needs help. He needs to learn that life isn’t all self-centered, and just one drug party after another. He needs to realize that there are limits to what behavior can be tolerated, before the universe rails him in, and makes painful corrections.

I’m praying for Charlie Sheen, and all the people around him. I pray for others who believe that they can just do anything they want, and infinitely abuse themselves and others.
