“Would you like the giant size for only 25 cents more?”  She said when I ordered a plain seltzer, which they didn’t carry.  I told her “no, that would be way too much.”
When I ordered a sandwich, half-size, six inches, she said, “how about the special foot-long for only $5.00 ?”  I was again shocked, replying, “no, that would be overeating!”
The sweet young girl behind the counter was visibly annoyed with me.  Had I spoiled her record of upsells?  Had I denied her credit, or a raise in pay because I don’t want to overeat?  I don’t know.  I wished her a great day anyway.
It was pretty amazing how corporations train their staff to encourage customers to overeat and over-consume.  Are they making more money selling twice as much food and drink, for pennies?  No, obviously they are not.  Why does this happen?  Do YOU have any ideas?
What is it in our civilized culture that we believe that more is more?  That eating as much as possible, and drinking sugar laden sodas is a good idea?  44 ounces is their giant size, that’s close to HALF A GALLON of soda!  (A U.S. gallon is 128 fluid ounces.)  And I see people going back for more, repeatedly.  It’s tragic.
This mass consumption is making us FAT.  We must stop this self abuse, and food corporations must stop encouraging us to become fat, or stay fat.
Please let me know your thoughts on this giant-sized problem!  Post a comment below.
