Here’s a cheerful but necessary theme:

Psychic attacks and intrusions occur both consciously and unconsciously. Because thoughts are things and because we are psychically connected, we can reach people over any distance – for good or ill – unless they are screened and shielded. So if we spend a lot of time mentally or literally bad-mouthing a person at a distance, our bitter thoughts and words could touch that person, undermine his/her sense of self-value, and even make him/her ill. If we indulge in sexual fantasies about another person, we may violate his/her psychic space without even knowing what we are doing. A very common problem for people who have been sexually abused, or have left abusive relationships, is that the former abuser turns up in their psychic space at night, trying to force his way into their bed.

Dreams very frequently reveal this and other kinds of psychic intrusion. Dreams are actually a vital part of our first-line defense against psychic attack, since detecting the problem takes us more than halfway towards neutralizing it.

I wish that deliberate psychic attack was only a phenomenon in folklore or the “primitive” past. Unfortunately, jealousy and other negative emotions, as well as the desire to manipulate or abuse, do motivate intentional psychic attacks and there are misguided practitioners who lend their skills to these things. While we do not want to give our energy to fearful thoughts and fantasies, ignoring this problem may not be an effective response. When we try to deny or ignore the reality of events on the psychic plane, we increase that they will spill over into our lives in harmful ways – because we no longer able to screen or control traffic between the realms, and deprive ourselves of a working relationship with spiritual allies. We are like people who close their eyes as they step out into a busy road, hoping that because we don’t see oncoming vehicles – maybe including a maddened drunk in a pickup truck – they will not be there.

In dealing with possible psychic attack or intrusion, we begin by following a common sense approach to psychic health summarized here – we stay grounded, we watch our energy levels, we call love and light into our lives. Secondly, we learn to recognize the signs of psychic attack which may include the following:

SYMPTOMS OF PSYCHIC ATTACK

–          Unexplained sense of fear or oppression.

–          Feeling suddenly drained of energy.

–          Bad smells or “cold spots” without physical explanation.

–          Negative “inserts” in our minds that seem to pop up out of nowhere.

–          Feeling pulled out of the body against our will.

–          Fear of going to sleep.

–          Sudden and crushing fatigue.

–          Astral repercussion (e.g. bruises on the body after sleeping).

–          Bug bites that aren’t necessarily caused by bugs.

–          Dreams of being attacked or vampirized.
