The Deacon's Bench

The Deacon's Bench

Quote of the day

“We are living in an era where people believe in Christ, but not in his Church. They want the king, but not the kingdom; they want to believe without belonging; they want the faith, but not the faithful. But for the committed Catholic, the answer to that is, ‘no can do.’ Jesus and the Church are one.”

— Archbishop Timothy Dolan, paying a visit to the other side of the country.

Right on, your excellency!
This is the necessary ‘salty’ rejoinder to the unseasoned soup in the video clip posted below (no scholar me, but I’ve an inkling the sun-moon analogy is orthodox patristics and key to understanding the frufrafra over Christopher West and his flawed “sacred sex” interpretation of the Church’s theology of the ecclesial body: its way too testosterone-heavy by far, and not respectful enough of the mystery of the balance between estrogen and progesterone and neglects completely the necessity of oxytocin for parturition … (these four hormones, you will recall are present in all humans to varying degrees, God gave some women ample reserves of testosterone and they may enjoy the rolicking physicality of West’s –and their own– deliveries, however God’s plan for conjugal love isn’t that facile, its a lot deeper and richer… gestating in a nurturing silence often times in the hearts of saints in our midst)

The Archbishop speaks wisely.
Our faith is fundamentally communitarian, solidarisitic, and social. The privitization and individualization of the faith in contrary to Catholicism. We are the Mystical Body of Christ.
