The City of Angels welcomed its newest batch of deacons last weekend.

From The Tidings:

“Christ ordained that many ministries would be carried on in the Church,” noted Cardinal Roger Mahony in a prayer during the liturgy. “Today it is those many ministries done by the deacons, often together with their wives, which at one time were the part of the ministry done primarily by the priest – baptisms, officiating at weddings, graveside services, visiting the sick and more.”

The new deacons, their wives and parishes are Jesse and Soledad Batacan, St. Christopher, West Covina; Miguel and Sebastiana Cruz, St. Joseph, Los Angeles; Isaac and Shari Edie, Blessed Junípero Serra, Camarillo; Miguel and Maria Galvez, Sacred Heart, Pomona; Luís and Rosa González, St. Joseph, La Puente; Fermín and Olga Herrera, Sacred Heart, Lancaster; Hector Miguel and Martha Hildago, Beatitudes of Our Lord, La Mirada; Frank Kolbash, St. Finbar, Burbank; José de Jesús and Verónica López, Mary Immaculate, Pacoima; Joseph and Dianne Lumsdaine, St. Dominic Savio, Bellflower; Lawrence and Janice McGloin, Holy Angels Church of the Deaf, Vernon; Reynaldo and Remedio Melgar, St. John Eudes, Chatsworth; Francisco and Teresa Sánchez, Our Lady of Peace, North Hills; and Young Hae and Sang Soon Ye, Sum Sang Korean Center (Holy Trinity Church), Los Angeles.
