The Deacon's Bench

The Deacon's Bench

Great expectations

Longtime readers may remember the item I posted last year about Jessica Rowley, who was looking forward to being the “first pregnant Catholic priest.”

Well, guess what?

You can read more about her right here. She belongs to something called the Ecumenical Catholic Communion. Which is not remotely Roman Catholic, and has a number of significant differences with the Roman church.

H/T to the American Papist.

Rowley says her congregation cheered when she told them she and her husband, a minister for the United Church of Christ, were expecting. So what church – the ECC or the UCC — will Rowley’s baby boy join?”That’s a good question,” says Rowley, with a laugh. “It’s a topic of conversation in our home a lot. We’re going to baptize him in both churches. But eventually he’ll be able to make a decision for himself.”That’s going to be tough unless these two churches share a doorway. It’s kind of strange that they’re planning on two baptisms given that ECC recognizes “the baptism and faith of all our Christian brothers and sisters”

Bishop David Choby of Nashville recently had a letter read after mass warning about the ECC. It looks Catholic but is most certainly not. There are 3 ECC churches in Nashville and they advertise for vocations on Craigslist ‘become a female Catholic priest.’I find it really disturbing and confusing to those seeking a connection to the Roman and Orthodox Catholic churches.

Christ had his Judas and today we have those who are Judas to his church. Amazing how we have so many lost in the issue of women priests and other issues that are settled forever in the Church.
