Christian Wisdom for July 12 2008

posted by sandrews

God may thunder His commands from Mount Sinai and men may fear, yet remain at heart exactly as they were before. But let a man once see his God down in the arena as a Man–suffering, tempted, sweating, and agonized, finally dying a criminal’s death.

–J.B. Phillips, “”Your God Is Too Small””

I must admit that I have never seen Mel Gibson’s movie about Jesus’ life for that very reason. I had a personal friend that was brutally murdered several years ago, and when I stop to think about the reality of what Jesus went through, I feel the same sickening, gut-wrenching, and heart-breaking emotions that I feel for my friend. Christ is much more than a figure to me, He is my close, personal friend.
