The world is not the way God meant it to be. The question of why a loving and all-powerful God allows evil to exist is almost as old as the human race. I have asked myself hundreds of times why God allows tragedy and suffering, and I have to admit that I don’t fully know the answer, even to my own satisfaction. I have had to accept by faith that even in the face of great evil, God is still sovereign, and His is still loving and merciful and compassionate. The Bible speaks of “the mystery of iniquity” (2 Thessalonians 2:7 KJV), and that’s what evil is: a mystery.

As painful as it to consider, it’s important to recognize that something is wrong with the world. Write about something happening in the world today—whether in your neighborhood or on the other side of the planet—that reminds you of the mystery of evil.
