Can Sweet Potato Fries and Veggie Burgers Satisfy Our Nation’s Husky Kids?

posted by chattering mind

The New York Times Sunday magazine ran a long and inspiring article by Lisa Belkin about the arduous task of improving the nutritional quality of America’s school lunch programs. Results thus far with obese and at risk children are “cautiously exciting.” Did you know that, without intervention, this generation of children may be the first to have a lower life expentancy than its parents? Here’s the link.

I recently tried sweet potato fries and am now hooked on them. I’m pleasantly shocked that they’re available in my small midwestern town Kroger’s. I find they don’t get crispy though unless they’re broiled a little after baking. Then a light dusting of sea salt or kosher salt and yummmmmmmmmmmmm……..>

I am not worrying…my generation and the next will realise the error of the last generation’s problems and we will correct them. As for me, I am a lacto-vegetarian, I avoid junk food, I’ll be alright. Plus, I work/bike to work which is 30-45 minutes away, and I don’t eat as much as I used to. I’ll be fine…>

I like sweet potato fries too, but they are fries and loaded with fat. I think the only antidote to fat is exercise. That’s what saved our ancestors back on the farm. Look what they ate! I am 62 years old and I know what I SHOULD eat, but that doesn’t mean I always eat right. Ditto exercise. I have always been appalled at the content of schoold lunches and the availability of sweets in vending machines at school. Look what that is teaching our young!>

CM's Final Posts: You Can Fill the Space
Eighteen years ago, I wrote an article for a magazine that got me called in for a taped interview with a Fox TV morning news anchor. Being an effective communicator and a skillful public speaker was a dream of mine at the time. And still is. After some 30 minutes of prep with the station's hair-and-

Websites to Visit, Blogs to Read
Here are some blogs and websites I like. It's not a complete list. But it's a start. The first is called New Moon Journal and it is written by Michele Bailey-Lessirard, a life coach, collage artist, and "shamanic astrologer." On the opening page of her site, you'll find a little slide show of her am

And Finally, This:
Place your burden at the feet of the Lord of the Universe who accomplishes everything. Remain all the time steadfast in the heart, in the Transcendental Absolute. God knows the past, present and future. He will determine the future for you and accomplish the work. What is to be done will be done at
