Israel’s Anti-American Ads: Not Kosher

This one just can’t wait for Fun Friday:

Netanyahu Government Suggests Israelis Avoid Marrying American Jews (The Atlantic)

Oy! I believe this qualifies as biting the hand that feeds you. And, as I noted on Facebook, nothing sends most young adults screaming from the mother(land) faster than a nonsense guilt trip. Besides, if the Netanyahu administration wants to keep up U.S.-Israeli relations and strengthen the Jewish diaspora, shouldn’t it be embracing the trend — if it’s even a trend? — of Israelis marrying abroad? It’s not an exodus if they come back, at least to visit.

It’s a horribly heavy burden American Jews are expected to bear. Be Americans but also be loyal to a country which parasitizes America and which treats some of its citizens and many of its neighbors in terrible ways.

And in America Jews generally wisely support separation of church and state, while in Israel it would be impossible to separate them.

I do not envy American Jews but I hope more and more of them see Israel for what it is.
