Beltane 2010: Public Locations

Beltane 2010 is upon us.  Beltane is one of Wicca’s two most important Sabbats, celebrating the power of life and growth, as Samhain, six months later, honors the powers of death and decline.  Beltane is fast approaching and in my opinion is perhaps the best Sabbat of all to celebrate in the company of lots of others.  Depending on the time of day and the place it is being held it can include a May Pole, Morris dancersObby Hoss, bonfires, and much more.    I’ll be at a May Eve celebration, then up early to watch the Morris Dancers dance up the sun, followed by still more festivities over the weekend.

Witchvox does us all a great service by listing Beltane events
. Their listing is constantly being updated and may be the best single
source to consult to find a celebration near you.

Beltane Eve is the perfect time to celebrate the special joyous, intimate connection we have with a favored loved one.
It’s time to celebrate your sexuality! :)

For those within reasonable distance, I can recommend Circle Sanctuary’s Beltane. They put on a great ritual on 200 acres complete with nine woods cleansing, balefire, the whole bit. It’s still chilly in those Wisconsin hills, but they usually some very good workshops and a great crowd of people.

I’ve never been there – too far. But I’ve heard good things about it.

I think Earth Day is a particularly important moment for contemplation and commitment by us Pagans.  Often American Christian critics accuse us of “pantheism,” and in a important respect they are right.  We do find the sacred, most of us, ...
