columnist photo Elliott Abrams is the president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington and chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom. He spent four years working for the United States Senate and several years in the State Department, where he received the Secretary of State's Distinguished Service Award from George P. Shultz. He has written for Commentary, The Weekly Standard, The National Interest, and National Review (where he is a contributing editor). He is the author of "Undue Process, Security and Sacrifice" and "Faith or Fear: How Jews Can Survive in a Christian America."
