James Finley: The Surprising Nearness of the Divine

Life is not just a series of small irritations, says contemplative prayer teacher James Finley.

How do we keep the petty annoyances of daily life from absorbing all our time and energy? Spiritual counselor James Finley helps us remember the divine mystery that surrounds us every minute.

Former monk James Finley left home at the age of 18 to study with Thomas Merton at the Abbey of Gethsemani in Kentucky. He has been a student of contemplative prayer for more than 20 years. He earned degrees from the University of Akron, Saint John College, and the Fuller Theological Seminary. Today he is a husband, father, writer, and psychotherapist in private practice. His books include “The Contemplative Heart” and “Christian Meditations.”
