April 15 marks “tax day,” the filing deadline for the IRS. Despite the moans and groans it gets, there’s a profound connection between our tax-paying life and our faith life, says Rabbi Brad Hirschfield, president of Clal-The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership. “Like our faith life, our tax-paying life connects us to something larger than ourselves,” Hirschfield said. “It’s a way in which we participate in the larger culture.” It’s also an important way to translate our ideals and values into reality, he says. “It’s where we invest in what we hope will happen in the world.”
