Why It’s Actually Not So Bad:
Investigating a dead worm or bird found on the sidewalk helps introduce death gently before kids have to face grief and loss of someone they love (grandparent or beloved pet). Be gentle, use a stick or gloves to avoid germs, but allow kids to explore and ask questions. Striving to understand death is a major task of childhood and a central part of spirituality.
Keep it Appropriate: Be respectful of the body – and always wash hands afterword.
