Baptism

Baptism Abby was four months old when we had her baptism on April 17, 2005 at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, MD. The reverend recited the triune baptismal language: "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit," which is the root of the ecumenical creeds recited throughout the year during Sunday worship. That was the beauty of Abby's baptism--how common it felt. Flowing water and familiar words made it feel more like a bath than a sacrament, but I think that's precisely the point. God's action in the world is most often mediated by human hands and lips.
