Hanukkah is about re-telling of the story of Hanukkah. It celebrates the victory of the Maccabees, Jewish soldiers who fought to practice their religion against an evil King in ancient times. The Maccabees were victorious even though they were outnumbered. When the Jews went back to reclaim their Temple, they found it trashed by the enemies. In order to restore it, they needed precious oil for light. All was destroyed except for one small jar, enough for one night; but lasting for eight! That’s why Hanukkah or (Chanukah) is called the Holiday of Lights.
