Scripture hardly supports the idea that spirits of the dead can return to harass the living. As the Bible makes clear, souls of the departed are either comforted in the presence of God or in agony absent his loving presence. The very notion of communicating with the dead is denounced in Scripture. The gullible have turned from God to ghosts. Ghosts are the stuff of superstition. While the spirits of the dead do not inhabit the land of the living, demonic spirits are pleased to play on the field of superstition. Ghosts only exist in mythology, but demons are more than happy to feed our unbiblical delusions.
