Midsummer Charms

How to include herbs and flowers in your solstice celebration.

BY: Waverly Fitzgerald

Consider the herbs and flowers of summer in your locale and how you might include them in your Midsummer celebrations:

  • Gather culinary herbs and steep them in boiling water to make magical teas.
  • Dry fragrant herbs and flowers (for instance, mint and rose petals, lavender and artemisia) and sew them into dream pillows or velvet pouches to wear as charms.
  • Make a wreath and hang it on your front door or wear it in your hair
  • Throw dried flowers or herbs you've collected over the year into the Midsummer bonfire.
  • Scatter rose petals in your bath water.
  • Decorate your doors and windows with greenery.
  • Serve a salad embellished with edible flowers.
  • Give your lover a potted plant with love notes tied to the branches.
