Reggae and Chanukah may seem to have little in common, but for the artists who produced the CD "Reggae Chanukah," there is a natural kinship between them. Alan Eder, the principal composer and arranger of the disk, calls Chanukah the "stand up for your rights holiday, borrowing a phrase from one of reggae's most famous anthems. As the CD's website declares, "The Rasta’s Nyabinghi groove and certain Jewish songs seem to be moving to the beat of the same drum." This particular selection is a reggae version of the popular Hanukkah song, Chag Yafay, sung by Alan Eder & Friends.

Lyrics

CHANUKAH, SKANUKAH

Chanukah, Chanukah, chag yafay kol kach
Or chaveev misaveev, gil l’yeled rach
Chanukah, Chanukah, s’veevon sov sov,
Sov, sov, sov, sov, sov, sov, ma naeem vatov.

Chanukah, Chanukah, Festival of Lights
Chanukah, Chanukah, candles burning bright
Chanukah, Chanukah, see the dreidle spin,
Spin, spin, spin, spin, spin, spin, let the fun begin!
