Mel Gibson’s Oscar winning film about William Wallace, who united the Scottish nation against their English oppressors during the Wars of Scottish Independence, is an epic affair filled with romance, action, and courage. Wallace’s battlefield speech – “They may take our lives, but they will never take our freedom!” – is one of the great Hollywood monologues. After seeing the film, it’s difficult not to want to take up some great cause and fight for it no matter what.
