My left Foot is the story of Christy Brown, an Irish writer, painter and poet, yet was born with cerebral palsy and can only work with his left foot. His autobiography inspired the film starring Daniel Day-Lewis. The movie reveals the heart-wrenching gritty struggles of Brown from his birth to writing his first word and on to navigating the already complicated world of relationships. My Left Foot is neither idealistic nor overly optimistic. It paints an unflinching look at the hardships of life with a disability, yet also the determination to overcome it.
