Gilbert Grape has a lot on his plate in a small Iowa town. His mother is morbidly obese and stuck in the house after the suicide of his father. He takes care and watches over his younger brother Arnie who is mentally challenged. Although he struggles with the burden of being the responsible one in the family, it's clear that Grape would do anything for them. The film showcases brilliantly believable performances by Johnny Depp as Gilbert and Leonardo DiCaprio as Arnie.
