Six Jewish Films Everyone Should See
The Prince of Egypt
Yes, the animated film. While the musical score for the most part fails to inspire (though it did win the Oscar for best original song), this is a well done and family friendly introduction to one of the most important stories in Jewish life-- the story of Exodus. Dreamworks created a Moses whom we can follow from childhood as a prince of Egypt to his ultimate destiny of leading the sons and daughters of Israel to freedom. The creators of this film were sensitive to a variety of religious traditions, and have managed to create something that is part Sunday school lesson, part animated beauty, and all around fun.
